While she didn't go home with the "American Idol" name, Kellie Pickler was one of the best contestants from the show. Kellie Pickler was born the 28th of June, 1986 at Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her parents are Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The couple had her mother who was 16 years old. The childhood was difficult for Pickler as her father battled with addiction issues for both drugs and alcohol and her mother had to leave her at the age of two. Morton came back to take custody for a couple of years, but Pickler said that it wasn't all that great. "I remember my mother as well as me at the kitchen table and I said'I'd love God could have me taken away as I'd prefer to not be alive together with you.' She took an old kitchen knife and placed it on the counter. After that, she told me: "Here you go." I was in fourth grade. Naturally, I wouldn't take action and it's caused me some emotional wounds," she said. Pickler at the time, at the age of 12 was handed her grandparents' custody following the hearing. Pickler was raised by her grandmothers throughout her entire life. They are cited as having the greatest influence in her life. In the month of January, 2002, her maternal grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. The family she was raised by was her grandfather. Pickler was a graduate of North Stanly High School, located in New London (North Carolina).
